Save The World

Strikes me there must be an awful lot of stupid people out there. I was reading a web discussion board a few days ago (well, a long time ago now), and a girl was talking about being one of only two vegans on a university campus. A guy asked her how she dealt with the inevitable contempt she must feel for her peers.

The girl misunderstood, and thought that he was asking how she dealt with the shit she'd get as a vegan from her peers. Obviously she went on to explain how she is used to it, and so on and so forth. Conversation ensues to become a whole party of ego-rubbing.

There was a point though. It does sometimes feel like there must be something going on. The things that made me realise there is a lot more to a ham sandwhich than just asking

May I have a ham sandwich please?

are available to everyone else, too. So why have they not realised? Why do they still order their ham sandwiches? Am I special? Are they stupid? This is the contempt the boy was talking about.

I truly can't comprehend how it's all managed to go on so long. Not just torturing for food, the whole thing. Whales, dolphins, rain forests, petrol, horses, sweat-shops. But right now I'm talking about food.

I'll admit that for a long while I couldn't see why people were vegan, and I can remember a time when vegans were people just been difficult. I think that must be at least one contributing factor to people wanting to stay stupid---they do not want to learn about people who go out of their way to cause needless complication.

Must be an image problem, then.
