Completion Stage

We've not found a house yet, so obviously nothing has been done.

Damn ancient pages. Not only have we found a house, we've been living in it almost two months. This page is just old. Damn old. So old you can see your face in it.

Plans

Dialup Server / Router

Use individual fetchmail instances to grab mail to it's local spool files, and then let outlook on the Win9x boxes POP3 it in from there. Or maybe IMAP would be better actually...

Diskless Workstations

No fan, no drive. Quiet. Humm... wonder where I can pick some of these up :-)

X10

Putting the lights (at least in my room) under computer control would be cool. Then when I pop my keys into the receptor at my door the lights'll come on, as well as everything else :-)

Music Server

In the living room we'll have a machine to play music from.

Might use personal iButtons to mix-in your favourite music with the current play list, but I'm not sure of the specifics of "mixing in" two play lists... or more, obviously. I guess with xmms in random play I could just append tracks to the end; but what about removing them again ?

Might use Gronk, or just the tool in that package that shows the current song in big letters, and use xmms straight.

General

Leave voice messages for people ? Could just configure the machines to easily record the .wav then email it... That'd be fast enough on the internal LAN. Better to convert to mp3 first, for storage though I guess. The .wav could be sent to the fastest machine, then Mpeg'd.
