a comic in bad taste ?

Some of the things that people have to say about this comic really surprise me. People seem to want to feel that there are things that shouldn't be said or suggested (particularly the person who was horrified to come across this image). They said things like

"if this is the fag who wrote that sick parking lot is full comic in the January 9th Imprint, i have something to say to you. 1.) Your a real sick twisted jerk! 2.) If your just trying to get attention (and that's probably the only reason you drew the comic) trying running across campus naked. 3.) If needlessly offending people for no appearant reason makes you happy, i'd recommend some counseling! 4.) To make amends, I would suggest you apologize. but, seeing that you are a scum sucking jerkoff with no moral values, I don't expect you to show the strength of charactor required to do this."

and

"By putting Jesus in a wheel chair, you mock the beliefs and practices of the founders of this country, this University and this newspaper."

These attitudes shock and disturb me more than the comic strips. The strips are crossing lines, certainly. They are disturbing; sure.

I feel that most of the images presented here are disturbing in a thought invoking way. They tell stories and display the darker side of culture and humanity. People complain about Jesus Christ being presented in a wheel chair. Why ?

Strikes me that the complaints are because the cartoons strike a personal nerve. If instead of Jesus Christ the character was the icon for some different religion; would the outcry be the same ? I doubt it.

We should strive to expose ourselves to everything we can. All facets of who we are, and who we can be. How can you decide what is moral and what isn't without seeing what is on either side of the line you have been given, and told not to cross ?

I don't think they are meant to be funny. They are not a laugh; they are serious pokes at the way we think and feel. If you become angry looking at them, think why. Should you really be angry ? Or have you been tought to be ? Whatever the answer, you have learned something about yourself and what we are. Go on, look through the archives. Take it seriously.
